1.1 Recommendations
This standard provides qualification procedures for
gear measuring instruments that are used for
evaluation of pitch and runout measurements. This
includes instruments that measure runout directly, or
compute it from index measurements. It also covers
condition evaluation of the measuring instrument.
Recommendations are included for establishment of
a proper environment and for statistical data evaluation
procedures.
Artifact analysis is included in annex A. Annex 6
provides calculation procedures and aids for interpretation
of eccentric artifacts (with runout). Annex
C provides a suggested design for a calibration
artifact. Statistical data evaluation procedures are
included in annexes D, E and F.
This standard is applicable solely to qualification of
gear pitch and runout inspection instruments.
Certification of the pitch and runout inspection
process (total measurement process) is a far more
comprehensive undertaking that is beyond the
scope of this standard. The measurement
procedures in this document are not intended for
qualification of product gears. See ANSI/AGMA
.1.2 Standard use
Pitch and runout instrument calibration uses artifacts
for qualification of gear pitch and runout inspection equipment, including environment and fundamental
instrument setup and performance. The standard is
generally used by, but not limited to:
manufacturers and users of gear inspection
manufacturers and users of geared power
-
equipment;
-
transmission products.
