Scope
1 .I Recommendations This standard provides qualification procedures for involute measuring instruments including the design and calibration of involute, pin, and plane (flank) masters. It also covers condition evaluation of the measuring instrument such as probe location, gain, hysteresis, etc. Recommendations are included for guidance to the establishment of a proper environment and for statistical data evaluation procedures. Master analysis is included in annex A. Statistical data evaluation procedures are included in annexes D, E, and F. Mathematics for the use and evaluation of pin and plane (flank) masters are found in annex B . This standard is applicable solely to the qualification of gear tooth profile inspection instruments. Certification of the involute profile inspection process (total measurement process) is a far more comprehensive undertaking that is beyond the scope of this standard. The measurement procedures outlined in the document are not intended for qualification of product gears. See ANSVAGMA 200SA88. 1.2 Standard use Involute instrument calibration uses master artifacts for the qualification of gear tooth profile inspection equipment, including environment and fundamental instrument setup and performance.
