Scope
For the purpose of this publication ,the following definitions shall apply: a) Cable A length of insulated single conductor (solid or stranded), or of two or more such conductors, each provided with its own insulation, which are laid up together. The insulated condutor or conductors may or may not be provided with an overall mechanical protective covering. b) Core (of a cable) The conductro with its insulation but including any mechanical protective covering. c) Flexibel cable or cord A cable or cord intended to connect movable or portable equipment in a construction containing one of more cores, having conductors formed of a group of wires, the diameters of the cores and wires being sufficiently small to afford flexbility. d) Length of lay The axial length of one complete turn of the helix formed by the core, in the case of a cable, or of the wire, in the case of a stranded conductor. e) For the definintions of general terms used in these Recommendations, reference should be made to the International Electrotechnical Vocabulary (IEC Publication 50).
