Scope
This part of DL 890 specifies the specification framework for the Energy Management System Application Programming Interface (EMS-API) Component Interface Specification (CIS). CIS specifies the various interfaces that a component (or application) should implement in order to exchange information with other components (or applications) in a standard way and/or access publicly available data. Part 1 of DL 890 gives the EMS-API reference model on which this standard is based. It introduces the terminology used in this standard and explains the role of CIS. This section provides a framework for Level 1 functional requirements document specification. These specifications are divided into two groups in the framework: the first group defines common services used by components to exchange information with other components or access public data; the other group defines the information memory used by components or systems to exchange messages with other components. This section also gives an overview of the functionality included in the CIS standard. These functions are described as a set of common services in textual terms and Unified Modeling Language (UML) notations. These common services can be used by any application to exchange information with another independently developed application or system and to access public data. These generic services specify the specific events, methods, and properties that applications can use to achieve this purpose. These specifications define common services for any application to exchange information or access public data. It also provides a roadmap to explain the content of each specification in Part DL 890.4XX and the underlying industry de facto standards it incorporates. Another series of DL 890.5XX parts describes the mapping of DL 890.4XX parts to specific technologies in implementations. To ensure interoperability, each interface must have a standard mapping for each technology. For example, if Java is chosen as the implementation technology, there needs to be a standard mapping between the publish/subscribe services specified in the CIS document and the Java services.
