This Published Document gives guidance on the use of BS EN 12271 in
the UK. BS EN 12271 specifies the properties of surface dressing
required for the surface treatment of roads and other trafficked areas.
This Published Document gives guidance on the performance
requirements and control procedures for the installation of surface
dressing as a product for the surface treatment of roads and other
trafficked areas. It does not apply to the following:
? surface dressings designed by the purchaser; i.e. the recipe
approach for which the contractor is instructed as to the rates of
spread, chipping size, etc., and therefore is not responsible for
performance requirements;
? surface dressing in tunnels where tunnel fire regulations apply;
? small areas under 500 m2 which are not contiguous, such as patch
repair surface dressing;
? airfield pavements covered by international regulations (e.g. ICAO
regulations).
NOTE In BS EN 12271 “other trafficked areas” includes footways and
cycleways.
