ISO 12217-1:2002 Small craft - Stability and buoyancy assessment and categorization - Part 1: Non-sailing boats of hull length greater than or equal to 6 m
This part of GB/T 20895 specifies methods for assessing the stability and buoyancy of intact (i.e. undamaged) boats, including the assessment of the buoyancy of boats that are prone to flooding and sinking. This section is used to assess stability and buoyancy and assign each boat a design category (Category A, B, C or D) appropriate to its design load and maximum total load. This section applies to boats with a hull length of 6m to 24m that are mainly propelled by human power or mechanical power. However, if these boats do not meet the design categories specified in GB/T 20895.3, and they are equipped with a deck and have a rapid water-discharging concave body that meets the requirements of GB/T 20896, they may also be applied to boats below 6m. This section does not include:
——Inflatable boats and rigid inflatable boats of 8m or less designed in accordance with ISO 6185;
——Canoes, kayaks or other boats with a width less than 1.1m;
——Hydrofoils that rely on dynamic support for navigation boats and hovercraft;
——submersibles. The effects of towing, fishing, dredging or lifting operations on stability are not considered or assessed in this section and such conditions should be considered separately (if applicable).
