Covers safety requirements for motors, motor parts, and combinations of such parts intended for use in appliances and equipment that comply with the requirments for such appliances and equipment. This standard applies to both open and totally enclosed motors. It covers commutator motors of the series, shunt, compund, and permanent magnet-field types rated 5 horsepower or less, 250 volts or less, alternating current or direct current. It also covers motors other than the aforementioned, rated 600 volts or less, 100 horsepower or less, with 19-inch diameters or less, and commutator motors of the repulsion type only. This standard does not cover motors for use in hazardous locations as defined in ANSI/NFPA 70-1981, National Electrical Code, nor does it include performance requirements that depend upon application in the end use equipment.
