This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of extruded bars, rods, shapes (profiles), and tubing. These extrusions have been used typically for structural parts requiring a combination of high tensile strength and moderate fatigue strength, but usage is not limited to such applications. Certain design and processing procedures may cause these products to become susceptible to stress-corrosion cracking; SAE ARP 823 recommends practices to minimize such conditions.
