- This standard describes the principles and framework of Life Cycle Assessment (LcA), including: a) Determination of the purpose and scope of ICA; b) Life Cycle Inventory Analysis (LcI) stage; c) Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LcIA) stage; d) Life cycle interpretation stage; e) Reporting and critical review of LCA; f) Limitations of LCA; g) Relationship between LCA stages; h) Conditions for value selection and application of optional elements. This standard covers life cycle assessment (ICA) research and life cycle inventory (LcI) research, but it does not detail the technology of LcA, nor does it specify the methodology for each stage of LcA. To I. The application of cA and LcI results should be considered when defining the purpose and scope, but the application itself is outside the scope of the standard. This standard is not intended for use in contracts, regulations, registrations, certifications, etc.
