This standard specifies the general method for determining the open and closed cell percentage of rigid foam plastics by measuring the geometric volume and non-ventilated volume of the test piece. This standard also specifies a method for correcting the apparent open cell volume during test specimen preparation, taking into account the surface air bubbles that are destroyed when the test specimen is cut. Two methods and corresponding equipment for measuring unvented volumes are also specified. The results obtained by method 2 are used for comparison purposes only.
