Scope

This standard deals with audible and visual signals and displays used in connection with the safety of passengers, crew, and ships and their equipment. These audible and visible signals and indicators shall be selected and equipped so that they can be clearly identified under all circumstances. This standard does not address ship-to-ship or ship-to-shore audible and visual signals used for navigational purposes.
