Scope

This standard provides a three-character character code structure and a corresponding three-digit code structure for currency and funds. For currencies with auxiliary units, the decimal relationship of the auxiliary unit to the local currency is also given. This standard also establishes maintenance procedures for maintenance organizations and specifies methods for applying for codes. This standard is applicable to all areas of trade, commerce and banking where money and funds need to be described. It is suitable not only for manual processing but also for automated processing systems.
