Scope: This International Standard specifies rules and guidelines for constructing data element definitions. This standard only introduces the meaning structure of the data element definition, and does not specify the format of the definition. These definition rules and guidelines apply to data elements as well as to writing definitions of other types of data structures, such as entity types, entities, relationships, attributes, object types (or classes), objects, segments, composite code items, and messages.
