Scope
1. This standard specifies a method for quantitatively evaluating the whiteness and lightness index of textiles including fluorescent materials. 2. The whiteness determined by this method is displayed as a textile whiteness indication. The tint index is displayed as a reddish or greenish tint drift reading from the neutral tint at a wavelength of 466nm to zero. The calculation formulas of whiteness and tint index are recommended by CIE (International Commission on Illumination). 3. This standard is applicable to the comparison of similar textile samples. 4. The formula is limited to use on samples that are called "white" in industry and commerce. The difference in color and fluorescence of samples should not be too large, and they should be measured on the same instrument at short intervals. Even within these limitations, the formula provides only a relative evaluation of whiteness, not an absolute evaluation of whiteness. As long as the measuring instruments used are relatively advanced and the technical conditions are suitable in industry and commerce, then this evaluation is sufficient for industrial and commercial applications. 5. This standard applies to the determination of the whiteness of textiles without impurities. 6. Textiles containing blue components or fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs) can also be measured by the method of whiteness measurement.
