This British Standard applies to compression ignition (diesel) engines, utilizing liquid fuel only, for propelling vehicles designed primarily for use on the public highway.
It specifies the standard test conditions for the test bed procedure, the equipment to be included on the engine for standard tests at the approved engine power outputs and the smoke control of the exhaust gases under 'steady state' conditions. It includes a type test, incorporating a 100 h test, and output tolerances and exhaust gas opacity limits on production engines.
