This standard specifies how to determine residual styrene monomer in polystyrene using gas chromatography. This standard may also be used to determine other volatile aromatic hydrocarbons in polystyrene. This standard is applicable both to styrene homopolymers and to high-impact polystyrene, which consists of two phases: a continuous phase consisting of polystyrene and/or alkyl-substituted styrene copolymers and a dispersed rubber phase based on butadiene.
