This standard specifies power converters mounted on railway vehicles that supply power to the following circuits. - Main circuit - Auxiliary circuits for motor vehicles, passenger cars, and auxiliary cars This standard consists of the following four chapters. - 1. General considerations - 2. Common matters for power converters - 3. Individual general rules for main converters - 4. Individual general rules for auxiliary converters Regarding main converters and auxiliary converters, please refer to 1. and 2 of this standard. The relevant chapter shall apply. General rules and details of test methods for electronic control units of power converters are shown in JIS E 5006 and IEC 60571. In the case of gate devices, the electronic part is related to the Japanese Industrial Standards and IEC standards mentioned above, but the usage conditions, insulation tests and functional tests are based on these standards. This standard is also valid for other towing vehicles, such as trolleybuses, where applicable. The power source shall be of the following types:
——AC overhead contact line - DC overhead contact line - Independent power source (on-board generator, storage battery and other electrical energy sources) In this standard, the terms ``manufacturer'', ``user'' and ``supplying party'' refer to the parties to the contract. This standard does not apply to electric road vehicles and low voltage, low power converters specified in IEC 60571.
