This standard specifies the preparation of samples, test solutions, test instruments and equipment, test conditions and procedures, test results and test reports for stainless steel ferric chloride pitting corrosion test methods. This standard is suitable for evaluating the pitting corrosion resistance of stainless steel in 6% ferric chloride solution. Note: The test solution used in this test method has strong oxidizing property, strong acidity and high chloride ion content, so it is highly corrosive. When the material dissolves or has precipitates of intermetallic compounds in the test solution, corrosion tends to be accelerated. The alloying element titanium in particular tends to exacerbate corrosion. Therefore, when using this test method to compare the pitting corrosion resistance of different materials, or when comparing the experimental data with the actual environment, attention should be paid to the characteristics of the test solution.
