This standard specifies the method for determining the softening point of bitumen by the ring and ball method. The softening point of asphalt is the temperature at which the sample falls to 25 mm due to heating under the measurement conditions, expressed in °C. This standard method is applicable to the determination of petroleum asphalt and coal tar pitch samples whose softening point ranges from 30 to 157°C by the ring and ball method. For the softening point in the range of 30 to 80°C, distilled water is used as the heating medium, and the softening point is in the range of 80 to 157°C. Glycerin is used as the heating medium. This standard does not specify issues related to safety. If necessary, it is the user's responsibility to formulate appropriate personal safety protection measures before use.
