This standard specifies several test methods for measuring the thickness of organic paints applied to substrates. This standard does not apply to metallic paints. Some of the test methods described here can be applied to the measurement of isolated coating thickness. The principles of each test method, their respective applicability and expected accuracy are shown in Table I. This standard also defines terms related to film thickness measurements.
