This standard specifies the method for the determination of the relative mass loss of metal powders when they are heated in a dry and pure hydrogen stream under certain conditions. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the chemical properties of the powder, the chemical properties determined by this method are very important in the powder metallurgy industry. This test is not intended to be used as a method for measuring the content of specific elements (see Appendix A). This test method is applicable to unalloyed, partially alloyed and fully alloyed metal powders listed in Table 1. Not suitable for powders containing lubricants or mixtures of metal powders. The results obtained may be affected by the presence of reducing, oxidizing or volatile metals or compounds (see Appendix A). For this type of powder, it is necessary to be cautious when applying its results, and the understanding of the results should be consistent between the supply and demand sides.
