This standard defines terms used for high-voltage direct current transmission systems and high-voltage direct current converter stations that utilize power converters to convert alternating current to direct current or vice versa. This standard applies to high-voltage DC converter stations with grid-commutated converters usually based on a three-phase bridge (two-way) connection using one-way electronic valves (e.g. semiconductor valves) (see Figure 2).
