- This standard provides procedures for estimating the median and interval estimation of the population probability distribution by randomly selecting n sample units from the population. These procedures give a nonparametric estimation method. The methods described in this standard are applicable to any population of connection distributions. Note: If it can be considered that the overall distribution obeys the normal distribution, then the median is equal to the mean, and its confidence interval should be calculated according to GB 3360; if the overall probability distribution function is known, other methods can be used to estimate the median; only for This method is used to estimate the median only for continuous distributions whose distribution parameters are not well known.
