Scope
This standard defines OSI data link services in terms of: a) the primitive actions and events of the service; b) the parameters associated with each primitive action and event, and the form they take; c) the actions and The interrelationships between events and their effective sequence. The main objective of this standard is to specify the characteristics of conceptual data link services, complementing the OSI reference model in guiding the development of data link protocols. This International Standard neither prescribes individual implementations or products, nor places restrictions on the implementation of data link entities and interfaces in information processing systems. This data link service definition standard has no equipment conformance requirements. Instead, conformance is achieved by conforming implementations of data link protocols that satisfy the data link services defined in this standard.
