This standard specifies the immunity requirements and test methods for electrical and electronic equipment when they are subjected to electrostatic discharge directly from the operator and to adjacent objects. It also specifies the scope of test levels and test procedures under different environmental and installation conditions. The purpose of this standard is to establish a common and reproducible benchmark for evaluating the performance of electrical and electronic equipment when subjected to electrostatic discharge. In addition, it includes electrostatic discharges that may occur from the human body to objects close to critical equipment. The provisions of this standard include: --Typical waveform of discharge current; --Range of test level; --Test equipment; --Test configuration; --Test procedure. This standard puts forward technical requirements for "laboratory" tests and "tests after equipment installation is completed". This standard does not specify tests for special equipment or systems. Its main purpose is to provide a common basic guideline for all relevant professional standardization technical committees. Relevant professional standardization technical committees (or equipment users and manufacturers) are responsible for selecting tests and determining the severity level of test conditions. In order not to hinder the task of coordination and standardization, it is strongly recommended that relevant professional standardization technical committees or users and manufacturers consider (in their future work or revision of the original standard) the relevant anti-interference tests specified in this standard.
