Scope
This standard specifies the technical requirements and test methods for the intermetallic tin-nickel alloy electroplating layer composed of about 65% (mass ratio) tin and 30% (mass ratio) nickel. This standard applies to tin-nickel alloy electroplating coatings on steel and other metal products, which can prevent base metal corrosion under different service conditions. This standard does not apply to: Tin-nickel alloy coatings on threaded parts. Tin-nickel alloy coatings on unformed plates, strips or wires, or on parts formed from them; tin-nickel alloy coatings on spring coils; tensile strength greater than 1 000 MPa ( or corresponding hardness) tin-nickel alloy coating on steel, because this steel is prone to hydrogen embrittlement after electroplating (see 8.2); it is mainly used as a tin-nickel alloy thin surface coating to change the surface tone of the part and give the part a decorative appearance.
