JIS K 0400-66-30:1998 Water quality -- Determination of total mercury by flameless atomic absorption spectrometry -- Part 3: Method after digestion with bromine
This standard specifies the method for quantifying total mercury using flameless atomic absorption spectrometry. Applicable to soft brine water (salt water) and other waters with little organic matter. This method can measure mercury concentrations higher than 0.2 μg/l. However, with optimal measurement conditions (minimum baseline noise, lamp with high spectral line purity, and reagents with very low mercury content), a detection limit of 0.05 μg/l can be obtained. This method cannot be applied if the amount of bromine added (see notes in 7.3.1) is not sufficient to oxidize the organic matter in the assay sample.
