- This part of GB/T 21782 specifies the liquid displacement pycnometer method for determining the density of powder coatings. This method is based on the determination of the mass and volume of the sample. The equipment specified for this method is relatively inexpensive, but the liquid-displacement pycnometer method may give incorrect results, especially if the powder expands as the liquid is displaced, or if the displaced liquid does not completely displace the air in the powder particles. The liquid replacement method is slower to use and less accurate than GB/T 21782.2008 "Determination of Density by Gas Comparative Hydrometer Method (Arbitration Method)". This method is only used when it is proven that the same result can be obtained with the gas comparative hydrometer method. .
