Scope

This standard specifies frame structures, procedural elements, procedural classes, and general-purpose XIDs for data communication systems that use high-level data link control (HDLC) procedures that are not subject to coding restrictions. (Exchage Iden-tilcation) Specifies the content and format of the frame, and the method for resolving and negotiating data link layer addresses in the exchange environment.
