Scope

This part of ISO 4378 defines the parameters, with their symbol, most commonly used in plain bear-ings calculations. NOTES 1 The terms given in this part of ISO 4378 relate more to calculations for hydrodynamic radial plain bearings. As soon as new documents for plain bearings calculation are prepared by ISO/TC 123 the parameters and sym-bols will be included in future revisions of this part of ISO 4378. The symbols given are subject to change; a new uniform system of sym-bols and designations for plain bearings is the subject of ISO 7904-1 and ISO 7904-2. 2 In addition to terms used in the three official ISO languages (English, French and Russian), this part of ISO 4378 gives the equivalent terms in the German language; these are pub-lished under the responsibility of the member body for Germany (DIN). However, only the terms and defini-tions given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms and defini-tions.
