Scope
This standard specifies the protocol used to provide connectionless network services described in ISO/IEC 8348 and to perform some network layer management functions. The protocol relies on low-level connectionless services provided by real subnetworks and/or data links. The hypothetical low-level connectionless service can be obtained directly from the connectionless real subnet, or indirectly on the connected real subnet, as described in GB/T 15274, through an appropriate dependent subnet. It is obtained through operation of the Network Convergence Function (SNDCF) or the Subnetwork Dependent Convergence Protocol (SNDCP). This standard specifies the operation of a unified, abstract "lower-level subnetwork service" protocol. Other standards specify the acquisition of such "lower-level subnetwork services" from real subnetworks, such as those in compliance with GB/T 15629.4 or GB/T 16974. "Methods. Such "low-level subnet services" may be available from other real subnets than those specifically covered by other standards. This standard specifies: a) procedures for the connectionless transfer of data and control information from one network entity to another peer network entity; b) encoding of protocol data units (PDUs) for the transfer of data and control information , including the variable-length protocol header format; c) procedures for the correct interpretation of protocol control information; d) functional requirements for implementations claiming to conform to this standard. Procedures are defined in terms of: a) Interaction between peer network entities via bitmap protocol data units; b) Interaction between network entities and network service users by exchanging network service primitives; c) Network entities and abstraction lower layers Service providers interact by exchanging service primitives. This standard also provides the PICS form of this agreement, which complies with the relevant requirements and relevant guidelines specified in GB/T 17178.1.
