Scope

This standard applies to mechanical connectors defined in 1.4.1, and specifies the general requirements and minimum quality assessment procedures for optical fiber and cable mechanical connectors (hereinafter referred to as mechanical connectors). All dimensional and optical performance requirements for mechanical splices are specified in the applicable detail specification. This standard includes blank detail specifications for the following four types of splices: -- Permanent mechanical single-fiber splices (Appendix A); -- Separable mechanical single-fiber splices (Appendix B); -- Permanent mechanical multi-fiber splices (Appendix B); Appendix C); -- Separable mechanical multi-fiber connectors (see Appendix D); Additional optical, mechanical and environmental performance requirements shall be specified in the detail specification.
