Scope
This series of standards provides a framework for the development of distributed office application (DOA) protocol standards. It is suitable for applications distributed over effective physical distances, making them like cohesive office systems. This series of standards describes a model. Standardized distributed office applications should use the principles it specifies. This series of standards provides guidelines for the design of protocols that allow access to different applications and interactions between applications. The distributed application protocol is located in the application layer of OSI and complies with the remote operation defined by ISO/IEC9072. This series of standards includes the purpose that system elements conforming to some parts of this series of standards can be realized by equipment provided by different suppliers and different service providers. This series of standards does not define the human-machine interface used in distributed applications. Nor does it define the interface between the software that interacts directly with the user and the specific application software. The content of this series of standards consists of two parts. This standard describes the general model of distributed office applications, which is divided into the following two parts: a) model; b) DOA protocol design guidelines. Part 2 of this series of standards describes the Distinguished Object References and related procedures used by all DOAs. This standard has no conformance requirements. Other parts of this series of standards may specify conformance requirements for system implementation procedures of those parts.
