Scope: This standard specifies the container identification system, size and container type codes and related markings and marking methods of markings, etc. The identification marks specified in this standard include: identification marks necessary for visual interpretation and optional identification marks for automatic equipment identification (AEI) and electronic data interchange (EDI). This standard applies to various containers that have been listed in ISO 668, ISO 1496/1 to 1496/5 and ISO 8323. It is also applicable to other containers not listed in Chapter 2 of this standard and other equipment related to containers. Note: Containers that have been marked according to previous editions of ISO 6346 do not need to be marked separately. This International Standard does not cover temporary work markings, permanent markings and data placards of any kind not required by ISO intergovernmental agreements, national regulations or civil society organizations. Note: Some important international conventions related to container marking requirements are not included in this standard, such as: --International Convention on Safe Containers (CSC, UN/IMO1992);
