This standard specifies requirements for decorative and protective nickel electrodeposited coatings on steel, zinc alloys, copper and copper alloys, aluminum and aluminum alloys. Several grades of coatings of different thicknesses and guidelines for the selection of coating grades for coated parts exposed to corresponding service conditions are given. This standard applies to decorative and protective nickel electrodeposits on steel, zinc alloys, copper and copper alloys, aluminum and aluminum alloys. The pure nickel coating without chromium surface layer specified in this standard is suitable for the coating parts that can prevent the coating from discoloration due to friction or contact during use, and also applies to the coating parts that use non-chrome surface layer to prevent discoloration and have low requirements for discoloration. Note: See GB/T 9797 for similar coatings used for decorative protection that do not change color during use, and see GB 12332 for engineering nickel electrodeposited layers. This standard does not specify the required surface condition of the base metal prior to plating. This standard does not apply to coatings on unformed sheet, strip, or wire, nor does it apply to coatings on threaded fasteners or dense coil springs.
