This standard describes the determination of acoustic quantities, in particular the type and location of sound pressure level measurements to be made, the time sampling and frequency analysis required and the special characteristics of the measured noise that should be taken into account, with the aim of enabling the evaluation of noise in the working environment. Various impacts of noise on workers who are habitually exposed to this environment on a daily basis. This standard is intended for use by authorities responsible for determining and monitoring compliance with workplace noise limits and determining the need for hearing protection programs and noise reduction measures. The standard itself does not specify or recommend acceptable noise limits. Although the bibliography includes references to statistical sampling methods, the standard does not specify statistical sampling methods for describing population noise exposure. The standard describes the application of measurement results with respect to the effects of noise on hearing, interference with conversation and other noise effects. It also includes special requirements describing infrasound and ultrasound exposure. Appendix A summarizes the application of the standard in terms of the impact of noise on health, work efficiency, comfort and the audibility of alarm signals. Appendix B gives a calculation example of continuous equivalent A-weighted sound pressure level. Appendix C discusses the calculation of evaluation sound levels including pure tone and impulse noise corrections. Appendix D specifies noise measurement accuracy levels.
