Scope
The national standard GB 4589-84 once stipulated the pure tone reference equivalent threshold sound pressure level (RETSPL) value for earphones when used in conjunction with an acoustic coupler. In some audiometry practices, in order to reduce adverse effects such as ear occlusion and interaural conduction, inserting earphones are used to give test signals or mask noises. The standard data of the equivalent threshold sound pressure level (RETSPL) of such headphones are specified in this standard. There is a slight difference between the hearing threshold level results obtained by audiometric equipment using different types of headphones, namely supra-ear and insert-type headphones.
