Scope

This standard provides guidance for the management of the credibility program. It includes the basic characteristics of a comprehensive reliability program such as planning, organization, direction, and resource control to produce reliable and maintainable products. From a management point of view, it only involves what must be done, why, when and how. As for who should do it and where, there are no specific regulations, because organizations and projects are different. This standard applies to those hardware and/or software products for which reliability is very important during the use and maintenance phases. The main purpose of the stated requirements is to control the impact on reliability during the entire life cycle of the product from planning to use. Any protocol that uses the guidelines given in this standard may choose to adapt certain parts of them to suit specific situations. When reference is made to parts of this standard, the parties concerned should agree and document the extent to which they apply, including guidance provided by other parts of the IEC 300 series. In this way, any optional clauses will be converted into formal requirements. Note: The guidance provided in this standard applies primarily to suppliers supplying a small number of qualified customers, but also applies to the supply of consumer products. This standard provides guidance not only for the defined life cycle phases, but also for any sub-phases. When referring to gender, masculine terms used in this standard also apply to women. The appearance of "documents" and "document records" in this standard is not limited to paper as the medium. The term "customer" is used synonymously with the term "acquirer" in this standard.
