This standard specifies dimensions and tolerances for film in rolls for use in photo typesetting or photocomposing devices, or both. It includes the dimensions and tolerances of the films themselves, perforations (when applicable), and cores, together with recommended winding configuration. The unrestricted use of all possible combinations of these parameters could readily lead to a proliferation of products. Therefore, for each of the parameters described, the preferred configurations are stated separately and are recommended. Some other configurations are used presently in significant volume, and these are acknowledged as "recognized."
