- This standard provides guidelines for the design and application of pressure relief technology and devices for dust explosions in enclosures. This standard applies to the pressure relief of dust deflagration surrounding enclosures. This standard does not apply to dust detonation, nor does it apply to the relief of enclosures that generate excessive internal pressure due to external flames or exposure to other sources of ignition. This standard does not apply to toxic substances and corrosive dust and fire, explosive dust. This standard does not apply to safety valves intended to protect against uncontrolled exothermic processes. This standard does not apply to pressure relief or domestic pressure tanks for equipment such as insulating oil transformers.
