Scope
1.1 These requirements cover factory fabricated, pre-engineered aboveground atmospheric tank systems intended for dispensing flammable or combustible liquids, such as gasoline or diesel fuel, into motor vehicles, generators, or aircraft. 1.2 Deleted November 13, 2000. 1.3 Tank systems include the primary tank, integral secondary containment, integral supports and the necessary core components that allow the system to function as intended and in accordance with the installation requirements. 1.4 Tank systems are evaluated for installation and use in accordance with one or more of the following model fire codes: Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, NFPA 30; the Automotive and Marine Service Station Code, NFPA 30A; Standard for Installation and Use of Stationary Combustible Engines and Gas Turbines, NFPA 37; Standard for the Storage of Flammable and Combustible Liquids at Farms and Isolated Sites, NFPA 395; Standard for Aircraft Fuel Servicing, NFPA 407; and the Uniform Fire Code. 1.5 All wiring and electrical utilization equipment provided as part of a tank system shall be evaluated for installation in accordance with the National Electrical Code , ANSI/NFPA 70 . 1.6 Tank systems covered by these requirements are fabricated and/or assembled in the factory. Limited field assembly of some components, when required, shall be as detailed in the installation instructions provided with each tank system. Subassemblies such as dispensing devices, are fabricated and/or assembled in the factory when such an assembly is described in the installation instructions. 1.7 These requirements do not address underground, remote-located, or field-installed items such as emergency shut-off devices, field-installed sumps, field piping, field wiring, islands or protective bollards (guard posts). 1.8 These requirements do not address the tank foundation or the anchoring method which may be required to prevent uplift from flooding or movement due to wind or seismic forces. 1.9 These requirements do not address the method of corrosion protection. 1.10 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
