Scope
1. SCOPe 1.1 This Standard specifies the requirements and test methods for spray-applied rigid polyurethane cellular plastics used as thermal insulation in buildings and other applications, when applied either "on site" or in a manufacturing facility. 1.2 The spray-applied rigid polyurethane cellular plastic thermal insulation shall not be used when the continuous service temperature of the substrate is outside the range of -60 to +80 °C. The exposed surfaces shall be suitably protected from water, fire, ultraviolet light, weather and mechanical damage. 1.3 The test methods used to determine the material properties provide a means of comparing different cellular plastic thermal insulations. They are intended for use in specifications, product evaluations and quality control. They are not intended to predict end-use product performance. 1.4 Additional factors not covered by the Standard, but which prudent designers and specifies should consider, are the following (but are not limited to them): A Vapour barriers, if necessary¹; B Air barriers, if necessary²; C Fire-protective coatings to meet national or local regulations; D Weather-resistant coatings when applications require them; and E The necessity to follow the instructions of the supplier (of the raw material) and other advice or regulations pertaining to the safe use of the raw materials and their safe application, so as not to endanger the health and safety of the workers and others in the immediate area. 1.5 The testing and evaluation of a product against this Standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this Standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use. ¹In the case where the spray polyurethane foam insulation is intended to act as a vapour barrier, then the material must meet the standard for vapour barriers in addition to this material Standard. ²In the case where the spray polyurethane foam insulation is intended to act as a air barrier, then the material must meet the standard for air barriers in addition to this material Standard.
