Introduction

GB/T 37400.18—2023 Standard Overview

GB/T 37400.18—2023 "General Technical Requirements for Heavy Machinery Part 18: Open Gear Transmission System" is mainly applicable to low-speed heavy-load involute open gear transmission systems used on cylindrical rotary equipment (such as ball mills, rod mills, autogenous mills, semi-autogenous mills, rotary kilns, coolers, dryers and cylindrical mixers, etc.). The standard clarifies the type classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of open gear transmission systems, providing an important basis for the design, manufacturing, inspection and acceptance of related fields.

Types and classification of open gear transmission systems

Classification dimensions Specific classification
Tooth line shape Open spur gear, open helical gear
Large gear structure Two-petal, four-petal, six-petal structure
Large gear installation method Flange installation method, spring plate installation method

Technical requirements and specifications

5.1 Basic requirements

Open gear transmission systems shall meet the following basic conditions:

  • Ambient temperature range: -5℃~40℃;
  • Pitch circle linear speed range: 0.3m/s~10.2m/s or pinion speed range: 1r/min~450r/min;
  • The end face overlap of spur gears shall not be less than 1, and the axial overlap of helical gears shall not be less than 1.

Material requirements

Pinion gears should be forged (recommended grades: 42CrMo, 40CrMnMo, 37SiMn2MoV, etc.), Gear gears should be cast steel or ductile iron (recommended grades: ZG35CrMo, QT600-3, etc.). The heat treatment hardness of the materials needs to match, and the hardness of the pinion gear should be at least 40HBW higher than that of the gear gear.

Lubrication and Sealing

5.4 Lubrication

The lubrication methods of open gear transmission systems include continuous lubrication and intermittent jet lubrication. The recommended lubricant viscosity and flow rate should be selected according to parameters such as ambient temperature and pitch circle linear speed. Please refer to Table 7, Table 8 and Table 9 for details.

Key data: The lubricant flow rate is proportional to the pitch circle diameter and tooth width of the large gear, and the flow rate range is between 2.4ml/20min and 59.79ml/20min.

5.5 Sealing

Open gears should be equipped with semi-enclosed gear dust covers, which should be circular or polygonal in shape. Sealing is achieved through the sealing ring on the end face of the large gear rim and the mating parts on the dust cover.

Installation and commissioning

5.6.1 Installation requirements

Before installing the large gear, ensure that the tooth surface and the mating surface are free of burrs and bumps. The large gear with a split design should be marked with matching. During assembly, the radial runout tolerance and the end face runout tolerance must meet the requirements of Table 2 and Table 3.

5.6.2 Commissioning requirements

During the commissioning process, check:

  • The preload of the bolts connecting the large gear flange and the cylinder flange;
  • The small gear and its bearing run without abnormal sounds;
  • The lubrication system runs well;
  • There is no oil leakage from the dust cover.

Standard Implementation Recommendations

To ensure the effective implementation of GB/T 37400.18-2023, it is recommended that:

  1. Manufacturing companies should establish a sound quality management system and strictly select and heat treat materials in accordance with standard requirements;
  2. Fully consider the stress conditions and working environment of the gears during the design phase, and optimize the gear structure and installation method;
  3. Strengthen the design and maintenance of the lubrication system to ensure that the lubricant flow and viscosity meet the requirements;
  4. Regularly check the meshing accuracy, contact spots and normal backlash of the open gear transmission system.
