Scope
"INTRODUCTION This Item presents aircraft ground performance as a subject in its own right and gives a guide to topics which are common to take-off@ accelerate-stop and landing. No particular emphasis is given to the class of aircraft@ powerplant@ surface or type of operation. A very wide range of technical and operational aspects of ground-performance is considered (see Contents list) while the implications of the various airworthiness and operating requirements are included wherever relevant. The Item has the following detailed objectives. (i) To give guidance regarding the forces and moments to be considered for the widest-possible range of ground performance calculations. (ii) To provide a common background to the ground-performance aspects of a sequence of Data Items* giving examples of field-performance calculation methods@ as follows. ITEM A: Take-off@ accelerate-stop and landing of a ""conventional"" transport aeroplane (CTOL). ITEM B: Cross-wind and asymmetric-thrust ground performance; including effects of low-friction surface and braking parachute. ITEM C: Short take-off performance with vectored thrust and/or ""ski-jump"". ITEM D: Estimation formulae for cases where equations of motion can be simplified to permit integration by algebraic means. (iii) To provide numerical information for topics not considered elsewhere in the Performance Series. (iv) To direct the user to sources of detailed information relevant to ground performance in the Performance and Aerodynamics Data Items and elsewhere. * Item numbers will be assigned and this page amended as each ""Example"" Item is issued."
