Scope
A1.1 This test method specifies the laboratory determination of the apparent viscosity of engine oil at high shear rates between -40°C and 0°C. The results are related to the engine cranking properties of the engine oil. A1.2 This method is an extension of ASTM D 2602 “Method for testing the apparent viscosity of automotive engine oils at low temperatures using a cold cranking simulator (CCS)” (). ASTM D 2602 was specifically developed for use in measurements at -28.9°C, -18°C and -17.8°C. Note () ASTM Book of Standards, Part 24.
