Scope

This standard describes four working modes of any 64bit block cipher algorithm using a secret key. NOTE: Appendix A (Information) contains a brief review of the nature of each mode of work. This standard specifies four definite working methods, so that in any application of 64bit block ciphers (such as data transmission, data storage, authentication), it provides information such as detailed description of working methods, generation of startup variables, and selection of parameter values. A useful reference. Note: For the ciphertext feedback (CFB) working method (see Chapter 6), two parameters j and k should be determined; for the output feedback (OFB) working method (see Chapter 7), one parameter j should be determined. When using one of these modes of operation, the corresponding parameters are selected and used by all parties involved in the communication.
