Scope

This standard specifies the representation of Gregorian calendar dates and times. It includes: calendar dates expressed in terms of years, months and days of months; sequential dates expressed in terms of years and days of years; dates expressed in terms of years, weeks and days; times of day based on a 24-hour time clock; The time difference between local time and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC); a combination of date and time; a period of time with a start and end point or only one or no start and end point. This International Standard applies to the representation of dates and times involved in the exchange of information. This International Standard does not cover dates and times described in words in date and time notation.
