Scope
This standard specifies the seven-digit codes, extended seven-digit codes, eight-digit codes or extended eight-digit codes according to GB 2311. This standard specifies a C0 set, a C1 set and some control functions and several individual control functions derived therefrom. These control functions are used in conjunction with character encoding data for information exchange by the character forming equipment. A character forming device is a device capable of receiving a data stream consisting of coded control functions and graphic characters and producing a character graphic output, that is, a human readable graphic output. The output character graphics usually appear in the form of one or more rectangular arrays composed of character positions and lines, which are called pages. If the device is not a simple output device, but an input and output device, it can also send a data stream composed of encoded control functions and graphic characters. The sent data stream is usually composed of the data that has been sent to the device and the data that has been input to the device locally. (for example, using a connected keyboard to input) combined. Control functions are defined in terms of what they do to character-forming input and output devices, so certain assumptions need to be made about the structure of the device. These assumptions should be as unrestricted as possible, as detailed in Chapter 6. Control functions may need to be represented graphically in addition to their execution. This standard is expandable, so more control functions may be included in future editions. Control functions specified in other standards may have more restricted meanings than those defined in this standard. EQUIPMENT TO THE APPLICATION OF THIS STANDARD There are devices specially designed for various applications which may differ significantly from one another due to their different applications. It is technically and economically unrealistic for a piece of equipment to implement all the functions specified in this standard. Only a limited selection of application-appropriate functions are implemented for any type of device.
