This document specifies the test methods for the linear reciprocating sliding wear test of steel balls on a flat surface, including unlubricated and lubricated test methods. This document is applicable to the measurement of friction and wear of materials in contact with a ball and a flat specimen. The coefficient of friction can also be measured using the method described. The scope of the test methods in this document does not include testing in corrosive or chemically aggressive environments.
