Scope
ESDU 77027 gives the results of 1500 fatigue tests taken from the literature presented as a non-dimensional alternating stress parameter (involving the stress concentration factor and material tensile strength) plotted against endurance. The data include axial and bending loading on (alpha + beta) forged rod@ bar and sheet with various heat treatments@ axial and bending loading on beta forged bar either annealed or solution treated and age hardened@ axial loading on extruded strip@ and axial loading on castings either machined@ shot peened@ or as cast. Detailed material specifications are tabulated for each test point@ and the graphs show wherever possible the effect of mean stress. The differences in fatigue performance of the various material forms are discussed.
